Hello Everyone!
This latest podcast episode is about connection to the body. We ought to be intentional and prioritize self - care, meaning scheduling it into our day, just as we would with meetings and lunch breaks. Taking good care of our bodies is a great way to feel connected to it.
5 Simple Tips :
Breath work - Taking time to relax and really focus on slow deep breathing in the morning ( try even putting your hands on your stomach while you do this to connect with breathing ). Also it is helpful any time during the day you are feeling stressed.
Staying hydrated - Drink a tall glass of water first thing in the morning before you do anything else . This will set you up already to start with good energy levels ( then you can still have your coffee or tea
Getting good sleep- Try to get 7-8 hours of sleep a night for proper rest and recovery. Finding a good nightime routine and possibly disconnecting from our phones or TV an hour or two before bed.
Exercise - Schedule 15 to 20 minutes of any movement like exercising with light weights (even sitting in a chair ) or marching in place if you have mobility issues. It does not necessarily need to always be an hour or more. All the little movements add up and are helpful to help you stay consistent.
Food as Medicine - Food is our fuel and being mindful of what we put into our bodies is essential to our health. We ideally want to be functioning to the best of our abilities, so it makes sense to treat our bodies well with healthy food as much as possible. Incorporate fruits and dark green leafy vegetables, lean proteins and whole grains for a balanced diet.
Here's a good quote to sum it up :
"Most of us still need to learn how to take care of our physical body. We need to learn how to physically relax and how to sleep. We need to learn how to eat and consume in such a way that our body can be healthy, light and at ease. If we listen carefully, we can hear our body telling us all the time what it does and does not need. "
-Thich Nhat Hanh ( " Father of Mindfulness" )
I hope everyone has a great day and let's continue to keep each other healthy!
